Annoucement: Top 100 Artists LIMCAF 2021

LIMCAF 2021: TOP 100 ARTISTS ANNOUNCED!

The list of the 100 Best New Works of young Nigerian artists who will feature in the Life In My City Art Festival (LIMCAF) Grand Finale Exhibition 2021 has been released.

A statement by Dr Ayo Adewunmi, LIMCAF’s Art Director noted that just over 550 works were received in all areas of fine and applied art, from the all over the country and the Top 100 emerged following a rigorous Jury process.

The jury meticulously considered thematic expression, creative use of material in keeping with the principles of design and the quality of finish and presentation.

The 2021 Grand Finale Exhibition will run from 15th to 20th November 2021 and the winners will receive their Prizes during the Award and Gala Night at the International Conference Centre, Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu on Saturday, the 20th.

Dr. Adewunmi gave an insight into the peculiarities of this year’s Festival which arose from the cancellation of the 2020 Festival due to the COVID-19 Pandemic that affected almost everything else worldwide.

He explained that after the Trustees decided to cancel the 2020 Festival the entries that had already been received for that year were retained for 2021 Festival while also retaining the competition theme for the entries received in 2021. It was also decided in consideration of the prevailing precautions to contain the Pandemic, to restructure the competition process and most aspects are now online and virtual.

As such, mindful of the pandemic protocols, the Jury which would have loved to see all the works physically before the final selections had to bend all faculties to the realities of the moment and make their choices online. The Regional physical exhibitions which used to hold in 11 Nigerian cities as a great and exciting second stage of the selection process were cancelled.

Details of other aspects of the 2021 Festival will be released in the following days.

The list of the 100 Best Works Finalists for the 2021 Festival is available on the LIMCAF website www.lifeinmycityartsfestival.org.
