LIMCAF 2021: NATIONAL JURY PANEL ANNOUNCED;

GRAND FINALE EXHIBITION AND AWARD NIGHT  ONLINE!

Life in My City Art Festival Nigeria’s longest-running annual art festival better known in art circles as LIMCAF – stages a comeback this year as a mainly online event. The COVID-19 pandemic had put its 2020 activities on the block shortly after the organisers had received the entries for that year.

A statement from LIMCAf’s Art Director Dr. Ayo Adewunmi,says that this year’s National Jury is headed by Dr. Chijioke Onuora,




  the University of Nigeria, Nsukka drawing, sculpture and art history lecturer who had served LIMCAF in the past in various capacities.

 

Onuora was first trained at the Anambra State College of Education, Awka, where he graduated with a distinction in Fine and Applied Arts. Later, under El Anatsui, and other illustrious art scholars,he obtained his B.A. and MFA degrees in Sculpture and a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Nigeria.  He is currently a lecturer at its Department of Fine and Applied Arts.

Other jury members include the North Park University, Chicago (USA) Professor of Art Nnenna Okore, who obtained a BA in Painting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and both an MA and MFA from the University of Iowa, USA. She is a 2012 Fulbright Award recipient and has exhibited internationally.

DUNIYA, Giles Gambo,holds aB.A Fine Art, M.A. and PhD degrees in Art History all from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He researches on diverse aspects of contemporary Art practices and is currently Professor of Art History and Criticism, at his alma mater.

Kpodoh Michaelis a versatile artist who works in diverse media. He studied art at the famous Federal Polytechnic Auchifrom where he graduated as the overall best student with distinction in 2001 and 2004 respectively.He is currently a full-time studio artist with many awards to his credit. Kpodohowns "GALLERY 7. KPODOHISM", in Port Harcourt.

SorSen, earned an MFA in Painting from Nigeria’s premier art school, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He has held solo shows and participated in group exhibitions. His works are widely collected earning him several prizes from Nigeria’s National Gallery of Art, Life In My City Art Festival (LIMCAF), Embassy of Arab republic of Egypt, among others.  He lives and practices art full time in Abuja.

THE 2021 GRAND FINALE AND AWARD NIGHT

For this year’s Life In My City Art Festival,only 25 winners out of the Top-100 competitors will physically attend the Gala Award Night, which will hold on Saturday, November 20at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu’s International Conference Centre. This is to ensure a strict adherence of the COVID protocols.

However, other participants and a worldwide public, will have opportunity to watch the night’s event unfold live on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

The statement also reveals that discussions have reached an advanced stage with a Nigerian-Canadian NGO whereby at this year’s Festival, which has become legendary for its resilience and continuing improvement in standard of works on display, several new prizes will be added to the traditional ones, which include the top four LIMCAF Prizes, as well as the endowed prizes. The new prizes, each of which will be worth not less than N250,000, will be announced later.

It is also hoped that especially because of the collaboration between LIMCAF and the Canadian-Nigerian NGO, more sales of artworks featuring in the Grand Finale Exhibition will be recorded this year through the online exhibition.
